Future...
As my Master’s program come to an end, I feel like my learning is still just in the beginning stages. I am only entering into my third year as a classroom teacher and I know there is a lot more for me to learn. As an educator I feel that learning never stops, we are lifelong learners. It is our jobs to create a sense of passion for learning and it is important to lead by example. I have always been very inquisitive and curious. My father said he always knew I would be a teacher. Although my Master’s program is coming to an end, I know my learning will still continue. I have been using all my resources and I plan to continue to do so. The more information I am able to gather the better informed I will be. I would like to stay updated in terms of teaching techniques, skills, technology, standards, and so much more.
One way I hope to enrich my students’ learning experience is by engaging them in authentic learning opportunities. For example this past year, I taught fourth grade social studies. Our standards include teaching the regions of the United States. As we virtually traveled the U.S., I created experiences that gave my students an inside view of what it would be like to travel to these places. I set my room up with souvenirs and/or landmarks that resembled what they would see if they were vacationing in some of these areas. When visiting, Hersey, Pennsylvania; we created an assembly line of the Hersey factory. The kids dressed up like factory workers, and assembled Hersey Kisses. This opportunity provided them with not only a travel in time, but also a travel to another state many of them have and will never see. I find traveling to new places is a great way to expand on my knowledge. I have been lucky enough to travel many parts of the United States and multiple countries around the world, so I try to share that with my studnets who many not have the same opportunities. I hope to continue to have the chance to travel and gain more first hand knowledge, which in hand I will share with my students.
I am a hands on learner and I enjoy being able to experience a task or learning/seeing it first-hand. As I continue to grow as an educator I plan to continue learning this way as I collaborate with my colleagues. I appreciate hearing other options and learning new ways to complete task. I do not feel that I know enough at this point to work on my own, without taking advice. I enjoy working together with my colleagues to aid me in gathering fresh and new ideas on how to do certain things. I plan to continue my education by collaborating with my excellent colleagues. It is important that my students recognize the importance of working and communicating with others in order to gain knowledge. I hold this same value for myself. Most of the time when one is placed to work in groups, someone has an insight or experience to share that you may not have thought of. Collaborating can be so insightful and it helps me to stay current with my learning opportunities. Each of us has a different quality to offer each other and can really learn a great deal by working together.
Staying current with teaching trends, strategies, and techniques is a vital part in the field of education. One way I like to d this and plan to continue this is by attending conferences that pertain to my position or interest me. It can be very difficult to stay out of a rut in the field of education. I find it important to prevent such a rut by staying active and encouraged through seminars. When attending conferences I find my excitement and drive rise. I can’t wait to get back and test it out or incorporate new methods into my teaching. I enjoy being able to hear from renowned educators from around the word as they share multiple strategies and advice. Many conferences provide an atmosphere where teachers gather and talk about education. I find that there is so much one can learn from networking and socializing with other educators. I believe my future as a learner involves attending numerous conferences in order to continue my education about my career to better my students.
As for technology, I am fortunate enough to work in a school district where we are very well equip. With our equipment comes a wonderful support staff and constant training. We are introduced to new programs, resources, and websites for our students and teachers. Technology is a very large part of my everyday life and I use it in and outside of the classroom. Young learners need to develop a sense of comfort with basic technological skills, but also with more advanced skills. It is important that students are able to use technology as a resource to make task easier for them. With new technology and differences comes a sense of fear, but in an ever-changing world it is vital to get over the fear and learn as much as possible. We are live in a technologically advanced society and it is here to stay.
Although my formal education may be coming to an end, my education is really just in the starting phases. Gaining and using acquired knowledge is very important to me as a lifelong learner. Learning comes in many different forms, but I truly enjoy I learning through travel, collaborating with others, and using technology.
